Makoi Privacy Policy

Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Makoi handles information when you create and keep travel photo books on your device. The app is a local publication tool, not an account-based service.

Photos and Book Details You Choose

When you choose photographs through Apple’s system photo picker, the selected image data and trip details you enter—such as a title, dates, companions, location label, captions, ordering, and export preferences—are used to create your book. You may decline or cancel the picker without creating a book.

Local Processing and Storage

Selected photos are copied into Makoi’s private app storage so the book can be edited and exported. Grouping, quality notices, page sequencing, and document rendering take place on the device. Book records, private copies, drafts, and export metadata remain there unless you deliberately share an exported file.

How Information Is Used

Your selected material is used only to organize pages, explain curation notices, render previews, and prepare requested exports. Makoi does not create a public profile or publish your book for you.

Sharing and Platform Boundaries

Exporting a PDF, page image, or long image opens Apple’s system sharing interface. The destination you choose may have its own privacy practices. Makoi does not control that destination and never alters or removes the original photographs in your system photo library.

Saving a Cover to Photos

If you explicitly choose “Save cover to Photos” in Print Check, Makoi asks Apple for add-only access to save the cover image it created. This permission cannot read, change, or remove existing photographs in your library. You can decline the request and continue using the app.

Retention and Your Choices

You can edit or delete an individual book from the shelf, or clear the local library in Library Settings. Those actions remove Makoi’s private copies and related records; they do not remove your original system-library photographs. Removing the app may also remove locally stored books, subject to device and backup settings.

Security

Local storage is protected by the security features available on your device and operating system. No storage method can promise absolute security, so use device protections appropriate for personal travel records.

Children’s Privacy

Makoi is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through the app in a way that requires attention, contact us.
